Mitel Networks' NuPoint unified voice messaging system and the SS8 messaging products share the common heritage of growing out of the Centigram Communications voice mail product line. Centigram was divided into two divisions, one that focused on Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) which became the NuPoint product line. The other focused on the Service Provider market and became part of SS8. Centigram voice mail systems were designed and engineered to last. A properly maintained Centigram system can perform for many years. Performing regularly scheduled maintenance such as on-line and off-line verifies are critical. The CPE division was purchased by Mitel and initially run as Baypoint Innovations. Later, that name went away and the product line became known as NuPoint Messenger from Mitel Networks. The new Unified Messaging (UM) products are SIP-based and run on Linux servers but have the same user look and feel as the traditional Centigram product. SS8
The remaining company became SS8 and focuses on the Service Provider market and very large enterprise customers. The SS8 messaging system also retains the traditional look and feel of Centigram but has been re-written and runs on a Sun server. The four Centigram Series 6 products include: Model 70 (4 to 32 ports) - Ideal for small businesses and multi-site corporations looking to liknk both large and small systems at multiple locations. Model 120R (4 to 48 ports) - Designed for mid-size companies; those requiring tailored systems with rich features and enhanced reliability. Model 120S (8 to 60 ports) - Caters to large size installations; supporting more than 50,000 mailboxes.
