This brief article provides some basic steps to increase the security your voice mail box. It wouldn't be very secure to provide an in depth discussion on the internet so please call us for more in depth suggestions of what you can do to me more secure.

1.  Choose a passcode or personal identification number (PIN). NuPoint allows passcodes 4-10 digits in length; the default is 4 but go with higher number. The longer your PIN number the more secure it is.

2.  Do not allow the use of default pass codes or simple series passcodes. A passcode that is the same as the mailbox, or recognizing caller (using Called ID) from mailbox allowing users to log into their mailboxes without entering a pass code. Some simple series passcodes are: 1234, 0000, 2580, 1111, 5555, 5683, 0852, 2222, 1212 and 1998.

  • Common 3 digit PINs:  123, 000, 111, 222, 333, 444, 555, 666, 777, 888, 999
  • Common 4 digit PINs:  1234, 0000, 1111, 2222, 3333, 4444, 5555, 6666 ,7777, 8888, 9999
  • Common 7 digit PINs:  1234567, 9999999
  • Common 10 digit PINs: 9999999999, 0123456789, 1234567890
  • Keep your PIN number secret.

3.  Do not use easily guessable PIN number values such as 0000, 1111, 1234 etc.
4.  Change your PIN regularly as a security precaution.
5.  If you have any reason to believe that your PIN number is no longer secret, change your voice mail PIN to a different value immediately.
6.  If you believe that your voice mail has been accessed in an unauthorized manner, contact your voice mail administrator immediately.
